In addition to being a good area to watch birds the park also hosts good numbers of insects and especially butterflies of a variety of species. In 2009, I managed to see the following species within the park mainly around the meadows, field edges and within the wooded areas:

  2. Essex Skipper,
  3. Large Skipper,
  4. Brimstone,
  5. Large White,
  6. Small White,
  7. Green Veined White,
  8. Orange Tip,
  9. Small Copper,
  10. Common Blue,
  11. Red Admiral,
  12. Painted Lady,
  13. Small Tortoiseshell,
  14. Peacock,
  15. Comma,
  16. Speckled Wood,
  17. Wall Brown,

Contact with a number of other local and county butterfly observers has also revealed that the following species have also been seen within the park and in the tetrad area (TM1642) in the last few years:

Holly Blue, White Admiral, White Letter Hairstreak, Purple Hairstreak, Green Hairstreak, Brown Argus, Swallowtail (!!!)
